​A stunning late Victorian / Edwardian wedge-shaped cheese dish and matching underplate, crafted by the renowned Franz Anton Mehlem factory in Bonn, Germany.

​This elegant "cheese keeper" features a beautifully moulded, scalloped body adorned with vibrant hand-painted autumnal orange flowers and delicate blue blossoms. The piece is finished with generous sponged gold gilt (gilding) along the edges and the ornate handle, giving it a wonderfully rustic yet opulent feel.

​This is a classic piece of European "Kitchenalia," designed to keep a large wedge of cheese fresh while serving as a grand centrepiece for the dining table.

​Authentic Antique Condition: This piece shows a lovely aged patina. There is visible "crazing" (fine crackling of the glaze) consistent with earthenware of this age, which adds to its period charm.

​Wear: There is some expected rubbing to the gold gilt on the handle and edges, and minor age-related discolouration/staining to the interior and base (please see photos).
